In the 1980's Dan Smith had an idea. He conceptualized a solidbody guitar with routed chambers. These chambers would, in theory, provide a more resonant tonal characteristic.

The Esprit Ultra has a carved spruce top, ebony fingerboard, and gold hardware. The Flame models have a smaller body width than the Esprit, with the same model designations and appointments as the Standard/Elite/Ultra designations. Esprit and Flame models have their name designations on the headstock. The Fender Master Series

The USA Ultra versions came with block inlay and gold hardware. At first glance this guitar looks like anything but a Fender, but those familiar with Robben Ford's music will recognize it immediately. Early on Robben used these guitars before Fender's custom shop started producing it as the Robben Ford Model and later on a Baker version continued.

These are becoming harder to find and make great guitars for blues or jazz.

I love the way this guitar plays and sounds and will have trouble parting with it. Compared to a new Baker that sells for over $6,000 and collector Robben Ford models that sell well over $25,000, one is this condition at this price will be hard to pass up.

1 tuner is replaced, 1 tuner has part of the tip missing, works fine as is. One fine adjustment screw (on bridge tail piece) is missing. This thing NEVER Goes out of Tune!!!

Low action, straight neck. I have it set up with New EVH 10-52 strings, and neck relief dead straight... Has the bigger frets, set neck. killer tone pots. The pots are like the Clapton TBX, on setting #5 it's like your average tone control on 10, then position 5 up tp 10 is a BOOST!. The toggle switch is a coil splitter... it turns off coils 1&4... basically, single coil tone, or Full Fat Humbucker Sweet Bell Tone.. You move the tone pots and vol around d... You can get many many & more many different tones.. From Blues Clean, to controlled feedback EVH Tone.. This was and is my own personal Axe... Had it over 10+ years.. I just own way to much. The older I get the less I need, or times just change.. I mean I own all that in my shop.. I'm not hurting for a guitar.. "Ya Think"

You never see the USA ones for sale, only the lower end Japan ones... and never the Ultra Flame USA ones.. :)

Or you can pay 6 grand on a 1999 one, but this one was made in the Old Fender Fullerton Plant, in Fullerton CA.... I'm here to tell you.. EVERY Guitar made in the old plant is the Real Deal... (Except the 76-81 3 bolt junks, that you see I have never bought or sold even 1)
