This is the actual guitar Bobby recorded the #1 song of all of 1961 one on- 'Tossin' and Turnin''- with its signature guitar hook
Not only a GREAT playing, GREAT sounding guitar (the Fender masterbuilders believe this to be the best sounding treble pickup in any strat they've ever heard. Period)...

The Billy Davis Years
One of the finest guitar players of Rock and Rolls Golden Age was Billy Davis. Billy was lead guitarist with Hank Ballard and the Midnighters, was guitarist and arranger for Jackie Wilson, and was influential in the guitar playing career of Jimi Hendrix. Today, at 67, Billy still thrills the crowds in and around Detroit with his great blues band The Billy Davis Rhythm Machine.
In Billys words.
In 1956, Hank Ballard and I visited the Fender Guitar headquarters near Los Angeles. They gave us a beautiful Fender Stratocaster Guitar for promotional use. I loved that guitar! I played it on many Hank Ballard and the Midnighters hit songs including Finger Poppin Time, The Twist, and Lets Go, Lets Go, Lets Go. That guitar helped us to become the first group to have three hits in the Top 40 at the same time. That guitar was the first Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix ever touched. He asked me to show it to him when he was 15 years old and we were doing a show in his hometown of Seattle.
One day in early 1960, I was on a bus tour with Little Willie John, Jackie Wilson, Ike and Tina Turner, Bobby Lewis, Baby Washington and a few others. Unfortunately, I got into a dice game with some of the guys and I lost all my money. It was so bad that I didnt have money for food at the next stop. I asked Bobby Lewis if he wanted to buy my Stratocaster. I had two guitars, so I would still have the other to play at our next show. Bobby reached into his pocket and all he had was $75. I groaned a little, but I took the $75 and gave Bobby his new guitar.
In Bobbys words.
After recording Tossin and Turnin with it, that Stratocaster and I knocked around for over 40 years as we traveled thousands of Rock and Roll miles together. Today, although Im older and the guitar is only 55, I look better than it does. I mended it when it broke, painted it when it looked tired, and installed a few attachments that I needed along the way. It served me well, playing all the Rock and Roll it could

The Fender Corporation has decided to build 100 exact replicas of the Billy Davis/Bobby Lewis/Gunnar Nelson Stratocaster. The guitar that thrilled audiences across America for fifty years will be immortalized forever. Abigail Ybarra, who built guitars for Fender in the 1950s, will be asked to come back and work on the replicas.
Jim Henke, curator of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, will be putting the Bobby Lewis Strat prominently on display beginning in the fall of 2010.
