In 1955 Gibson developed a line of thin-bodied electric guitars to appeal to players wanting a smaller more comfortable instrument, but without the weight of a solid body guitar. This line consisted of three guitars: The upscale Byrdland, the mid-priced ES-350T, and the economy ES-225T
The 1959 ES-225 TDN pictured has all the features typical of that model including: a laminated maple top, back and sides, a single bound top and back, 24 and ¾” scale mahogany neck with bound 20 fret rosewood fingerboard, and two P-90 single coil pickups. The strings are held in place by an original Les Paul style combination bridge-tailpiece.
The Gibson ES-225T was one of Gibson's early thinline hollowbody guitars. During its run between 1955-1959, the ES-225 was produced with either a sunburst or natural finish, and with either one or two P-90 pickups. Double pickup versions are worth more than those with one, and natural is worth more than sunburst. The ES-225 with a natural finish and two pickups was known as the ES-225 TDN. A very rare model as a total of just 542 TDN's were produced by Gibson between 1956-1959 with only 223 made during 1958.

Notes: Before the ES-335, 345, 355. Before the ES-330, and the humble 125TC. Before any of the legendary series of Gibson thin lines that changed guitar design forever, there was this slim blonde beauty, where it all began.
This gleaming beauty is one of just 171 examples produced in that final year of production. The lightweight laminated body offers superior feedback resistance, and the clarity and range of the P-90 pickups and fast 24 3/4" scale makes for a highly versatile and playable combination. Unique among Gibson thin lines, the 225 is fitted with the combination bar bridge/trapeze tailpiece designed by Les Paul himself, and seen only on the ES-295 and the earliest Les Pauls
