2005 Gibson Alvin Lee "Big Red" ES-335 ARALCHNH1
For any Woodstock fan, this guitar is iconic symbol of the event, complete with peace symbols and pot leaf stickers, as Alvin Lee and Ten Years After was riding the crest as one of the era's top rock bands. Who can forget Alvin's solo of "Going Home" played on his '59 ES-335 "Big Red"
Alvin and Gibson came to terms on production of a signature model with and without stickers. Not many made with stickers!
This Custom Shop Big Red has faithfully recreated Alvin's guitar, including the stickers and artwork found on the original, the added 3rd pickup, custom pickguard, and of course the '60s block inlay neck which replaced the original "Dot" neck after the headstock snapped off.
The Big Red 335 features a semi-hollow body with maple top-back-sides; 1-piece mahogany neck with 1960 slim taper;( It is a Pretty Big neck tho, NOT thin At All! 1 11/16" nut; single-ply cream binding on top, back and neck; Gibson ABR-1 bridge; TP-6 fine-tuner tailpiece; 3 volume, 2 tone, 3-way selector switch; rosewood fretboard; chrome hardware; pearloid block inlays; Kidney Bean tuners, '57 Classic humbuckers with a Seymour Duncan single coil in the middle. The single coil is wired to the middle position on the 3-way and, thus, is always "on" but the extra volume control allows you to turn it up, or all the way off.
This guitar was a one-owner, collector who kept the guitar pristine until his youngster happened upon it and put a small finish chip on the top.(see pic)
This guitar plays exceptionally well with a very fat tone and superb sustain. I wasn't sure I'd like the middle pickup but after messing with it for a few minutes, I found some amp settings which really made this guitar shine and it didn't sound as good with the pickup turned down.
Whether you're an old hippie at heart, an Alvin Lee fan, or simply a player looking for a quality 335 with more tonal versatility, this is a very cool guitar
Includes custom shop case, certificate, manual, etc.
